The LWRCI Six8-A5 is a rifle developed as part of the Enhanced Rifle Cartridge program to address the performance limitations of the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. It is chambered in the 6.8x43mm SPC II cartridge, which is designed to provide increased terminal performance compared to the 5.56mm round. The rifle was specifically designed around the 6.8mm cartridge and features various optimizations to maximize its effectiveness.
One of the challenges with the 6.8mm cartridge was the lack of reliable magazines. To overcome this issue, LWRCI collaborated with Magpul to create a dedicated magazine for the 6.8mm round. The magazine resembles Magpul's popular PMAG design but has a slightly wider body and reinforced walls to accommodate the 6.8mm cartridge.
The Six8-A5 incorporates several features that are tailored for the 6.8mm cartridge. These include an enlarged ejection port, an Advanced Combat bolt specifically calibrated for the 6.8mm round, and feeding geometry optimized for the dimensions of the 6.8mm cartridge.
The rifle also shares many features found in other LWRCI weapons. It has a heavy-profile, cold-hammer-forged barrel with a black Nitride treatment and spirals fluting. The spiral fluting not only reduces weight but also provides increased surface area for faster cooling. The Six8-A5 utilizes LWRCI's patented short-stroke gas piston system, known for its reliability and easy maintenance. The bolt carrier is nickel-boron coated for enhanced durability and corrosion resistance.
To further enhance reliability, the Six8-A5 is equipped with the LWRCI Enhanced Fire Control Group, featuring nickel-Teflon coated components for a smooth and crisp trigger pull. The rifle also offers user-friendly controls, including an ambidextrous safety selector, charging handle, bolt release, and magazine release. The enlarged trigger guard allows for easy shooting with gloves. Additionally, the rifle features a low-profile 2-position adjustable gas block, enabling fine-tuning for use with suppressors.
The LWRCI Six8-A5 is designed to provide improved terminal performance by utilizing the 6.8mm cartridge and incorporates various features optimized for reliability, accuracy, and user-friendliness.
